Elsewhere, Swansea go to Burnley, Crystal Palace host West Brom and Middlesbrough play Stoke. Southampton and Watford also face off, before Manchester City and Sunderland meet in the late game.

Five things we learned from Selhurst Park

Saloman Rondon headed the winner as Palace’s opening day defeat strengthened Alan Pardew’s pleas for fresh investment in his squad.

The Venezualan broke the deadlock in a dreadful game when he flicked home a 74th-minute free kick from sub James McClean.

Only Aston Villa scored fewer goals thanCrystal Palace and West Brom in the Premier League last season.

But Rondon, who saw Wayne Hennessey produced a great save from another header after only eight minutes, produced the one quality finish in the match.

After new signing Alvaro Negredo scored on his Boro bow in the 11 minute, Uruguayan forward Gaston Ramirez hit the post and then the crossbar with a menacing free-kick.

The former Southampton man also cleared two balls off the line as he defended well at the other end as well.
