Abuja shut down as celebrities storm Mallam Yankee's birthday bash

Abuja shut down as celebrities storm Mallam Yankee's birthday bash

Saturday, 18 February 2017

Kehinde Adegbite, popularly known as Mallam Yankee as well as the Jagaban of entertainment has added another year.

Like it has always been,  Mallam Yankee who is the CEO of the Bank Club Abuja will be hosting different celebrities at the Bank Club in Abuja as he marks his birthday this Saturday, 18 Feb. 2016.

The Saturday premium banking at the club will be dedicated to his birthday event. The birthday celebration that has already started literally shut down the ATM lounge just in front of The Bank on Monday.

Yankee has equally disclosed that a Novelty football match was being put together in celebration of his birthday.  ‘’ Team Yankee will be slogging it out with CKSC at the Millennium Park on Sunday, the 19th of February. Time is 4pm-6pm. I’m celebrating because I’m alive and doing just fine,’’ he said.

While commenting on Mallam Yankee’s birthday,  his publicist, Ali Adoyi  said,  ‘’The name, Mallam Yankee rings a bell across the country today, not only that he has created a unique brand, but has carved for himself a niche, and taken a road many entertainers can hardly go. Despite being a goal-getter, the risks he takes while doing his job is unprecedented.

‘’Mallam Yankee, is not only a social engineer who has transformed nightlife across the country, but a redesigner of investment. His investment in talents across the entertainment world is an obvious redefinition of selfless investment for the purpose of societal growth. This is why many Nigerian artistes were able to cross to the other side through him.

‘’The entertainment renaissance in Abuja after a long dark era has further justified the title of Jagaban of entertainment bestowed on this humble son of Adegbite.

''The transformation of nightlife in the city of Owerri, Imo State and other states across the country that had initially witnessed minimal patronage in entertainment has further justified the fact that nation building cuts across different facets of life. Indeed, Mallam Yankee is a nation builder.

‘’Having partnered to set up one of the best clubs in Africa, The bank, in Abuja, Mallam Yankee went further to put up another magnificent one in the city of Owerri, and named it Illusion. This is aside the launching of artists into the entertainment industry at various events.

‘’As an employer of labour who has engaged several young people in all his investments, Mallam Yankee is known to be one of the few contributing positively to the nation's economy.

‘’The CEO, The Bank club, has undoubtedly taken the road many have refused to take. He has found water in the desert, and has made the desert attractive to many who had undermined it.

''He is now shouldering the responsibility of Opa William’s Nite of a Thousand Laugh due to his experience and tenacity in the entertainment industry,’’ Adoyi said

PDP crisis worsens as court endorses Sheriff

PDP crisis worsens as court endorses Sheriff

On February 18, 2017

By Jimitota Onoyume, Henry Umoru, Ben Agande, Charles Kumolu, Luka Binnniyat and Joseph Erunke.

THE crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP worsened yesterday after the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt sacked the Senator Ahmed Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee which enjoys the support of the mainstream of the party and its organs.

The Appellate Court by a 2-1 majority affirmed that the party offended its own constitution in the way and manner it sacked the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff led executive and in the disobedience of court orders against the holding of the May 21 Port- Harcourt Convention. The court asked that the party should return to the status quo.

Sheriff and Makarfi

Yesterday’s decision followed the earlier judgments by the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt that endorsed the action of the Port-Harcourt convention in enthroning Senator Makarfi and members of his National Caretaker Committee. The judgment given by Justice Mohammed Liman also specifically barred Senator Sheriff from parading himself as the national chairman of the party.

Sheriff had upon that judgment appealed the decision to the Court of Appeal which last November after hearing the briefs from the counsels to the two parties reserved judgment which was given yesterday. The lead judgment was supported by Justices Bitrus Sanga and Abubakar Muhammed.

Justice Abadua Orji in her minority judgment, however, differed saying that the National Convention being the highest organ of the party was sufficiently empow- ered to take the decisions in the best interest of the party adding that Sheriff having presented himself for screening at the national constitution could not turn around to abort the process.

Justice Sanga who read the lead judgment yesterday said:

“The way the executive of the party was removed on May 21, it is clear that the provisions of the party’s constitution were not followed. The appellants were not put on notice. The court will not close its eyes against illegality. Because of the failure of the party to follow its constitution, obey court orders the caretaker committee constituted is therefore, a nullity.

Parties are to maintain the status quo. By the party’s constitution, a vote of no confidence can be moved on any officer but two months notice shall be provided to the secretariat which shall be circulated,” an action the court said the party failed to do.

He also flayed the conflicting judgments from the trial courts of concurrent jurisdiction on the same issues and questions, saying, “it is an abuse of court process when courts of the same jurisdiction are faced with the same issues and questions.”

The judges then awarded N100,000 in favour of the appellants. Justice Orji in her minority judgment insisted that the national convention of the party was the highest organ of the party and that its decisions should be sacrosanct.

She said since Senator Sheriff turned himself for screening for the convention of the party in Port Harcourt he could not have turned round to suddenly postpone the exercise, stressing that he misconstrued his powers as acting National Chairman of the party.

According to her, Senator Sheriff deliberately absented himself from the May convention and that his duties at that convention were suitably carried out by the Deputy National Chairman of the party. While upholding the outcome of the May 21 national convention she awarded N100,000 in favour of the respondents.

Justice Sanga later told the court that the certified true copy of the judgment would be ready before next Tuesday. Among prominent party chieftains who were in court to witness the proceedings were Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, spokesman of the Makarfi faction, Chief Emma Ogidi, National Vice Chairman, South-South of Markarfi’s faction and Dr. Cairo Ojugboh, deputy national chairman of the Sheriff faction.

Reacting immediately after the judgment, spokesman of the Makarfi led mainstream, Prince Adeyeye said they would appeal the judgment affirming that they would remain in office unless countermanded by the orders of the Supreme Court.

“We are appealing to the Supreme Court, so the status quo remains. The status quo simply means that two of us remain until Supreme Court rules. When an Appeal Court sacked Governor Nyesom Wike, he remained in office until the Supreme Court ruled. So Markarfi is still National Chairman of our party, “ he said.

On his part, Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh who spoke for the Sheriff’s faction of the party said the judgment simply nullified the existence of the Markafi’s action and pronounced Sheriff as national chairman of the party. According to him, “ it was two to one. The statuesque is that Sheriff remains Chairman of the party. It is two against one.”, he said.

REACTIONS

Varied reactions of disapproval yesterday trailed the decision of the Court of Appeal in Port-Harcourt to recognise the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff led national executive of the party.

The party’s major organs including the Governors Forum, the Board of Trustees and the members of the national caucus with near unanimity opposed the judgment with all demanding for an appeal to the Supreme Court. In an extreme reaction,

former minister Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, however, described the judgment as the work of the Muhammadu Buhari administration and called on party members to form another party and abandon the PDP carcass for Sheriff. However, in an exception, the Deputy National Chairman of the Sheriff, faction, Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh said the victory for Sheriff was an opportunity for the two factions to negotiate.

Among those who reacted yesterday were Senator Ahmed Sheriff, the chairman of the national caretaker committee, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the highest elected political office holder in the PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin, the chairman of the BoT, Governor Ayodele Fayose, the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and some serving and former National Assembly members.

Reacting yesterday, Senator Makarfi said the party’s stakeholders would meet in Abuja next week to ponder its next step.

Speaking to journalists at his residence in Kaduna, he said:

“We have utmost respect for the judiciary. So we are not going to take the laws into our hands. We might not agree with the

judgment, but there is a process and procedure if you did not agree with something that you follow.

“As an individual, I cannot decide for the party until the party stakeholders meet and take a definite decision.

No more Gay, America belongs to God-- Donald Trump

Several social issues disappeared from the WhiteHouse.gov site Friday, including a page dedicated to LGBT rights.

A report on the Labor Department’s website on LGBT workers rights was also removed.

Advocates for the LGBT community have worried about what a Trump administration would mean for the progress made on equality issues under President Obama. As a candidate, President Trump said he is opposed to same-sex marriage and Vice President Pence has taken strong anti-gay rights stances throughout his political career.

And while it’s standard for the new administration to update the White House’s official website with its agenda as part of the transition it is notable that the Trump administration did not choose to include anything about the LGBT community.

In a statement Friday afternoon, Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said, “If President Trump truly believes in uniting the country, now is the time to make clear whether he will be an ally to the LGBTQ community in our struggle for full equality. We are prepared to do whatever it takes to protect our community and our progress.”

I have not enjoyed her since I married her... Husband tells court

-23rd January 2017

An estranged husband, Tunde Esan, on Monday has asked an Akure Customary Court to dissolve the 18-year-old marriage between him and his wife, Yetunde, whom he described as ‘’too lazy.’’

The petitioner, who expressed bitterness while seeking dissolution of his marriage to Yetunde, said that he had endured her for so long.

“I had endured for many years; I can no longer tolerate her lazy attributes,’’ he said.

According to him, all his efforts to get his wife start a trade had failed.

“My wife is not ready to do any work but only sits at home watching movies.

“I have not enjoyed her since I married her.

“Though I am used to her lazy acts, I would have filed for divorce but was restricted by various appeals by friends and family members,’’ he said.

The petitioner said that it was his eldest child that had been cooking in the house.

He also told the court that the respondent was fond of incurring debt which put the family into disrepute.

“I am a very comfortable man, I have mansions and well comfortable but my wife keeps borrowing money from our neighbours.

“She took a bale of cloth from somebody without my knowledge.

“There is no facet of life she has not failed.

“As a matter of fact, she neither washes my clothes nor sweeps our apartment and we have not been greeting each other for more than seven years.

“In fact, it’s been long we had sex as husband and wife.

“I perceive she is a possessed woman,’’ he said.

The petitioner told the court that the union had broken down to the level any reconciliation.

The respondent, however, pleaded with the court to intervene and safe her marriage from dissolution.

Yetunde knelt down in the court and begged her husband to forgive her.

She admitted borrowing money and taking some clothes on credit without the knowledge of her husband.

The respondent said that the matter could have been settled without coming to court but that the petitioner did not give room for settlement.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the marriage is blessed with three children.

The President of the court, Chief Rotimi Olusanya, adjourned the case to Feb.14, in order to make room for reconciliation.

Olusanya asked the petitioner to allow the respondent stay in his house until the next adjourned date.

Only PDP can rescue Nigeria, say Fayose, ex-Gov Daniel

2019: Only PDP can rescue Nigeria, say Fayose, ex-Gov Daniel

— 23rd January 2017

From WOLE BALOGUN, Ado-Ekiti

Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, and former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, both believe that only the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can rescue Nigeria from its myriad of problems as the nation moves closer to another general election in 2019.

The two PDP chieftains thus called on all party members to close ranks and rebuild the party so as to win the 2019 presidential election.

In a statement made available to journalists, on Monday, in Ado-Ekiti by Fayose’s Special Assistant on Communication and New Media, , Lere Olayinka, the governor was quoted as saying that it must have been clear now to Nigerians that the ruling Al Progressive Congress (APC), has nothing positive to offer except hunger and deception. So, leaders of our great party are urged to come to the rescue of the nation by urgently waking up the sleeping giant (PDP).

The statement read in part: “Falling is not unusual but remaining in falling state is admittance of perpetual defeat.  PDP is a sleeping and not a dead lion. We have the best and established  structure which needs only reactivation by putting all hands on deck. It is a phase we can overcome even as the APC ruling  government has not impressed Nigerians rather they have impoverished the nation by their cluelessness.”

Earlier, Governor Fayose had received former Minister of Information, Prof Jerry Gana and former governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, who visited the governor at his Lagos residence to congratulate him.

I Will Eradicate Radical Islam From The Face Of The Earth - Trump Vows, Threatens Buhari, Others....

I Will Eradicate Radical Islam From The Face Of The Earth - Trump Vows, Threatens Buhari, Others....

United States, US, President, Donald Trump, has placed the battle against Islamic extremism at the heart of his foreign policy, as he took the oath of office on Friday, vowing to work with allies to destroy the jihadist threat.

“We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones, and unite the civilized world against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the earth,” he declared.

This came as Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States, ushering in a new political era that is cheered and feared in equal measure.

The 70-year-old Republican Billionaire, placed his left hand on a bible used by Abraham Lincoln, and recited the 35-word oath spoken since George Washington, and then launched into a much-anticipated inaugural address.

“We the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort, to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people,” Trump told a crowd of hundreds of thousands, massed on the National Mall.

“Together we will determine the course of America and the world, for many many years to come,” he said.

“From this day forward, it is going to be only America first.”

Trump’s inauguration caps the improbable rise to power of the Manhattan Real Estate Mogul, who had never before held any elected office, served in the government, or the armed forces.

A crowd of hundreds of thousands looked on, including outgoing President, Barack Obama, and Trump’s defeated election opponent, Hillary Clinton — who narrowly missed out on becoming America’s first female President.

“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” said Thomas Mendenhall, 68, a retired Banker from Missouri. “We just want change”, he added.
