Drake’s ‘One Dance’ breaks billion mark on Spotify

Drake’s ‘One Dance’ breaks billion mark on Spotify

December 16, 2016

Drake

Drake’s “One Dance” on Friday notched up another record — it is the first song to be played a billion times on Spotify.

The Canadian rapper’s song — which already in October became the most-streamed song ever on Spotify — had been played 1.002 billion times by early Friday.

With a raw funk vibe but minimalist beat, “One Dance” has been in heavy rotation at clubs and parties this year.

The track, which appears on Drake’s top-charting album “Views,” features guest vocals by Wizkid, one of Nigeria’s top singers, and British house artist Kyla.

Drake’s totals on Spotify, the largest site in the fast-growing format of streaming, comes even though he has a business tie-up with Apple.

The tech giant, whose upstart Apple Music is trying to catch up with Spotify, released “Views” exclusively for its first week although individual tracks appeared elsewhere.

Despite Drake’s success, he was surpassed in November for most monthly listeners on Spotify by The Weeknd — a fellow Toronto artist and protege of Drake.

And in a surprise to many music watchers, “One Dance” was not nominated for Record of the Year or Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards although Drake is up in other categories.

Khloe Kardashian opens up about her ‘unhealthy relationship’ with food during marriage to Lamar Odom

Khloe Kardashian opens up about her ‘unhealthy relationship’ with food during marriage to Lamar Odom
By Ifysandy, Chudez

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has been honest in the past about how the breakdown of her relationship with ex husband Lamar Odom led to her turning to the gym and transforming her figure.

And now the 32 year old has opened up further about how she discovered, and overcame, her “unhealthy relationship” with food whilst dealing with the traumatic split.

Khloe and Lamar, who recently finalised her divorce, tied the knot in 2009 but split four years later.

Speaking to Health magazine, Khloe admitted that she needed an ”outlet” to help her get through the end of her marriage

She said: ”I was going through my divorce, and I just really needed an outlet.

“I had turned to food and had an unhealthy relationship with food my whole life, and I was like, ‘Food has never helped me lose weight.'”

“No-one would bother me or ask me questions because even at Starbucks, I would get the, ‘I’m sorry…’

“I would watch the ‘Real Housewives’ or something mindless, and I felt like all the stress I was under, all the paparazzi, I blocked out all that noise.

”I escaped there and as a byproduct, I started losing weight.”
Khloe revealed it was then that she got in touch with family friend Gunnar Peterson, a personal trainer, to help her take her fitness to the next level.

“He changed my body,” Khloe admitted.

Though she is often seen working out with her sisters Kourtney and Kim and follows a fairly strict diet, Khloe has admitted that the reason why her regime works is because it’s not always strict.

The Strong Looks Better Naked author told her 58 million Instagram followers: “”I never thought I would EVER be on the cover of @healthmagazine but hard work pays off! Mind, body and soul!

“It’s a lifestyle,” she added, “especially when I still love to treat myself with my favorite foods but that’s the balance of life!”

Elsewhere in the interview, Khloe revealed her family changed their wills to make her their medical advisers after Lamar’s overdose last October.

She also discussed her relationship with new boyfriend, 25-year-old basketball player Tristan Thompson.

Divulging about her type of man she said: “I love athletes. Someone who has the same interests as me, who likes to work out, like that’s their hobby or their job, that’s fine.”

She then adorably added: “Tristan is who I’m into. He’s a little cutie.’

Mkhitaryan Starts For United Against Tottenham

Mkhitaryan Starts For United Against Tottenham

By Chudez

Jose Mourinho has named the same Manchester United team for the second Premier League game in a row for Sunday’s visit of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Portuguese made six changes for Thursday’s 2-0 victory over Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League, but has reverted back to the team which drew 1-1 with Everton for the clash with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

That means there is no place for either Wayne Rooney, who returns from a domestic suspension, nor Eric Bailly, who played in Odessa in midweek following almost seven weeks out with a knee injury.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan starts for a fourth successive fixture after a string of impressive showings which have seen him become more regularly involved in the United setup.

For the visitors, Toby Alderweireld is back in the starting lineup for the first time since suffering a knee injury in October against West Bromwich Albion, while Harry Kane leads the line against a club he was often linked with before signing a recent new deal at White Hart Lane which will keep him in north London until 2022.

Man Utd: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Darmian, Carrick, Herrera, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Martial, Ibrahimovic. Subs: Romero, Bailly, Mata, Blind, Rashford, Rooney, Fellaini.

Tottenham: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Wanyama, Dembele; Eriksen, Dele, Son; Kane. Subs: Vorm, Nkoudou, Dier, Sissoko, Wimmer, Winks, Davies.

Real Madrid Set New Unbeaten Record

BY CHUDEZ

Two goals in two minutes from Joselu just after the hour mark looked set to end Real’s unbeaten streak stretching back to April after Alvaro Morata’s opener.

However, even without the rested Cristiano Ronaldo, Real maintained their six-point La Liga lead as Mariano Diaz equalised six minutes from time before Ramos’s late intervention.

Zinedine Zidane’s men have now surpassed Real’s previous record mark of 34 games unbeaten from the 1988/89 season under Dutch coach Leo Beenhakker.

Zahra Buhari and Mohammed Indimi One account said the Indimis and the Buharis had a run-in during the traditional introduction ceremony as one of the Indimi sisters was banned from taking her camera into the Villa to record the traditional introduction ceremony. Another account claimed that the President was dissatisfied with the grandiose manner with which the Indimis delivered their dowry boxes made by French luxury brand, Luis Vuitton. Health is wealth.. Read the health implications of Marijuaana

Doc, what are the health implications of marijuana? ……. (1)

— 4th December 2016

I have received from people, and requested to discuss, more than 100 health-related questions, in the last 6 months. I plead with my responders, that in fullness of time, I shall discuss all of them, maybe probably merging related topics, to avoid repetitions. I have, had 4 questions related to marijuana in the last 2 months, a) One wanted to know the health-implications of smoking marijuana for a very long time.
b) Another said he had smoked marijuana for 3 to 5 years before he stopped, and wanted to know if there will be any after affects on his health. c) Another said he only smokes marijuana about 3 to 4 times a year whenever he visits his village during festivities, but does not smoke it in Lagos where he works for security reasons, and wanted to know if it will harm him. d) The last said he occasionally uses marijuana leaves to cook porridge yam, because he was told it leads to long-life, and helps in keeping sickness at bare. I decided to educate us, on what marijuana is, it effects on our body, and the pros and cons of its usage.
What actually is marijuana?
♥ All over the world, “marijuana or marihuana or cannabinoids”, means different things to different people. In Nigeria it has varied names, wee-wee, igbò, kongò, Indian-hemp, wrap, ganja, hashish, etc etc. Marijuana is a Mexican-Spanish word, originally used to refer to a poor-grade of tobacco. Later it came to mean a smoking preparation made from the Indian hemp plant (cannabis-sativa). A tall weedy plant related to the “fig” tree and the hop, cannabis grows freely in many parts of the world. The different grades produce drugs of varying strengths.
♥ Some 300 million people around the world obtain, smoke or use marijuana in one form or another. Marijuana drugs are obtained almost exclusively from the female hemp plants. The male plants produce the fibre of the hemp. When the female plants are ripe, the top leaves, flowers develop a minty, sticky, golden-yellow resin, which eventually blackens. This resin contains the highest concentration of Tetra-Hydro-Cannabinol (THC), the active ingredients of marijuana.
♥ Marijuana is prepared in two alternative ways. The flowers and top leaves of the plant can simply be dried and crushed; or the resin itself – which is the active ingredient – can be extracted. The first form is called simply marijuana (nicknamed “grass”), and has the appearance of a dried crumbled herb. The second form is called hashish or cannabis resin (nicknamed “hash”), and appears as a hard brown lump. A liquid “oil” of the resin is also available.
How is marijuana consumed?.
1) ■ The 2 main forms of marijuana are normally smoked, usually in cigarettes called “joints” or “reefers”. The dried flowers and leaves may be used alone, or mixed with tobacco. If the resin is used, it is heated and crumbled, then the small pieces are mixed with the tobacco as the joint is made. Alternatively, both forms may be smoked in a pipe. A water pipe is popular, as it cools the smoke before it is inhaled.
2) ■ The other mode of consumption is in drinks or food. This can give longer and smoother effects; also more extreme effects, as more of the drug can be taken into the body this way. However, control over dosage is diminished, and nausea may occur.
What are the effects of marijuana in the body?
1) ♥ Marijuana accumulates in the liver, so it is hepato-toxic, meaning it will eventually damage the liver, especially when inhaled. So our youth should take note.
2) ♥ Marijuana increases the heart rate, lowers body temperature, and alters blood sugar level and this could lead to unconsciousness with an overdose.
3) ♥ Marijuana leads to gargantuan appetite stimulation, that one person could consume, food meant for 3 people. So parents, whenever your teenage sons, become insatiable, with excessive food consumption, please quietly investigate what he is smoking.
4) ♥ Co-ordination of movement become impaired. There are feelings of drowsiness and unsteadiness. The eyes may become reddish. In higher doses marijuana can cause hallucinations, or distortion of perception. The effects begin withi 15 minutes after it is inhaled and lasts for 4 to 6 hours. The effects may vary from depression, excitement and talkativeness. Some smokers experience time distortion and errors of distance perception. Surprisingly some smokers of marijuana, may experience no effects at all.
5) ♥ Some marijuana users find it hard to make decisions that require clear thinking. Some users develop psychotic reaction, heading towards schizophrenia, or an emotional disorder called ” acute marijuana panic”
6) ♥ There is some evidence that the active ingredient of marijuana is transmitted by expectant mothers to their unborn children. So pregnant mothers that experiment with pot smoking, please beware, or you damage your children from birth.
7) ♥ Some smokers of marijuana may also become colour-blind. So any youth that cannot identify colours, should be grilled for pot smoking.
Our take this week.
All youth should be discouraged from smoking marijuana, because 95% of those who do, never ended up well in life. Next week we shall discuss the medical uses of marijuana. So stay off pot.

Miss Anambra’s sex tape saga will affect other pageants, says former Miss Tourism — Sharon Anya

Miss Anambra’s sex tape saga will affect other pageants, says former Miss Tourism — Sharon Anya

DECEMBER 4, 2016
By Ayo Onikoyi

In the wake of the sex tape saga of former Miss Anambra,  Chidinma Okeke, that threw several media into pandemonium, there have been worries that other pageants may not hold as much credibility as they used to. The Miss Anambra saga which Nollywood is even attempting to make into movie raised many questions about pageants in Nigeria and some enthusiastic pundits have been painting all sorts of pictures what to expect in future. Meanwhile, Potpourri talked to a former beauty queen, Ambassador Sharon Anya, Miss Tourism Nigeria 2015 and she also holds the belief that pageants may not be what they used to be. “It will certainly affect other pageants. Sharon Anya The organisers have to become more transparent, and let the criteria be properly spelt out, and being more transparent means, everybody should know why the winner won, and on the other hand, the contestants should always go for official meetings with her lawyer and manager before signing any contract”, she offered. When asked if it is true that beauty queens cut corners to win at all costs, the Mass Communications graduate of Igbinedion University said it is a possibility and maintained that it is not exclusive to pageants. “It happens in any other field. Some journalists go the extreme to get top interviews, even in churches, there are pastors that use diabolical powers to get to the top. Some athletes use drugs to get to the top,  there are those that would want to do anything to get to the top of their careers, in every field. There are those that break the moral boundary in pursuit of a goal, others won’t, it’s everywhere, so it’s not peculiar to pageants only. “I don’t know her to know what went wrong, the act was wrong but the person…I can’t judge. For future pageants, have a team, have a manager and a lawyer. For me, I got into Miss Tourism Nigeria pageant for a purpose and not to be famous. My pageant is about promoting tourism , women empowerment, leadership across the country and attracting foreign investors, I focused on that, and it kept me going, I was able to stay scandal-free because I invest in myself a lot, I cultivated a life I want to enjoy in peace,” she added

BIAFRA: Igbo leaders, agitators reject Buhari’s position, insist on restructuring

BIAFRA: Igbo leaders, agitators reject Buhari’s position, insist on restructuring

DECEMBER 4, 2016

By Emeka Mamah, Vincent Ujumadu, Dennis Agbo & Chinedu Adonu

Leaders of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and  a  former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nduka Eya, are among Igbo people who have rejected  President Muhammadu Buhari’s  statement that those agitating for Biafra should perish the idea because it would not be a reality, saying  Buhari was day-dreaming. IPOB, in a statement  by its  spokesman, Emma Powerful, said that Buhari and the people around him are far from the reality about what is happening now and what is about to happen in Nigeria concerning the restoration of Biafra. President Muhammadu Buhari (M) as he join in a group Photograh with Obi of Onisha, HRM Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Leader of the South East Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Dr Ebereche Dick `HRM Eze Sam Ohiri, HRH Chulwuemeka Ike and others as President Buhari receives South East Traditional Rulers at the state house in Abuja According to IPOB, the statement credited to the President during a meeting with South-East traditional rulers that his visitors, should advise their subjects to forget the issue of Biafra had proved that Buhari and his the people around him  were far away from the reality on ground. “They forgot that there is no how Nigeria can be one again because of the cheating from the people ruling the country. They also forgot that there are those who came to rule Nigeria in perpetuity are of the knowledge that Nigeria is not going to be one country in the near future”, the group said. “There is no way a country where cheats, quota system, imbalance of states and local government areas and lopsided sharing are the order of the day can be one indivisible entity. “Those who created 19 states in northern part and 17 states in the southern part of Nigeria and more local government areas are aware before the creation that one day Nigeria will be a devided nation. “With the fraudulent falsification of Nigeria census figures against the Biafrans since the colonial era, they know very well that one day Nigeria will be a thing of the past. “We are also aware that those at the corridors of power in Nigeria are aware that Nigeria is sinking but refused to tell the president the truth on the ground about the coming of Biafra. Eya, a former Secretary General of Ohanaeze, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard, yesterday, on the President’s statement,  said Buhari was “day-dreaming.” The Secretary of Ohanaeze in Enugu State, Hon. Fidelix Ojobo, spoke in the same vein, saying the Ndigbo would continue to agitate for Biafra since the agitation is guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution. The former Secretary General said, “The man (Buhari) is day-dreaming. He has the solutions to Nigeria’s problems in the resolutions of the last National Conference through restructuring but he is not doing anything.. “Biafra is a reality, people should not be angry because time shall tell. Abacha gagged Nigeria in his own time until God called him and MKO Abiola. Nobody should worry about whatever he says but if he thinks that Biafra is something to be wished away, then Biafra will overtake him. All I can say is that oppression stops when the oppressed says no.” Meanwhile, Enugu State Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Hon Ojobo, said Buhari was merely airing his opinion as an individual, adding that Nigerians and Igbo in particular would continue to agitate for their constitutional rights. President Buhari the Chairman & the Executive Secretary of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, at the State House “The issue of Biafra is not a bad agitation and it is also not violent. The Igbo will keep agitating.   Biafra has come to be whether he supports Biafra or not,” Ojobo said. He then advised the President to remember that “we are operating democratic system of government and he should organise a constitutional conference and seek people’s views, because a referendum will help immensely to solve problems of this country.” Ojobo also urged Buhari to address the issue of Igbo marginalisation in the area of political appointments, federal civil service recruitment, infrastructural development, especially roads among many other issues, instead of insisting that those agitating for their civil right (Biafra) should perish the idea. In his own reaction, Chief Boniface Odo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, said that although he was not involved in the agitation for Biafra, he was in support of every move by Ndigbo to agitate against marginalisation by successive federal administrations including the present APC. “APC has inflicted a lot of hardship on Nigerians, especially Ndigbo. APC is like one of the seven plagues that afflicted the people of Egypt in the Bible. We in a country where people are committing suicide due to hunger and one man is busy using coercive powers on those they are meant to protect their lives, it will not work. Our people must continue to agitate.”

Don Jazzy, Dr Sid thrill as Okorocha unveils Grand Cubana Lounge

Don Jazzy, Dr Sid thrill as Okorocha unveils Grand Cubana Lounge

— 2nd December 2016

By Kemi Yesufu

Owerri, the bubbly capital of Imo State, came alive on Friday November 25, when Governor Rochas Okorocha unveiled Grand Cubana Lounge and Events Centre, probably the biggest and most upscale hangout in the south east.

The hotspot had been the talk of the town, most especially, among fun loving people of the state weeks before it was launched. However, while declaring the lounge open, Okorocha, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, commended Obinna Iyiegbu, chairman, Cubana Group and its management team for building a high-class entertainment hub in Imo State.

“Now, we don’t have to go to Abuja or travel out to enjoy a place of this quality and we therefore have to commend you for making this kind of investment in Owerri,” he said.

Nwosu expressed the willingness of the Imo State government to collaborate with genuine investors who have interest in the state, announcing that Governor Okorocha had directed that streets lights be installed from the Assumpta Roundabout to the World Bank Road location of the events centre to further ensure the safety of fun seekers.

“What we are witnessing today is the Igbo spirit of industry, the Igbo spirit of investing in your own place and remembering home. I must commend the chairman of the Cubana Group for investing in the south east at this level after doing the same thing in Port Harcourt and Abuja. I want to announce to you that Governor Rochas Okorocha, the people’s governor, the Senior Advocate of the Masses, has directed that street lights be installed from the Assumpta Junction to this place to further make the provision of security easy here,” Nwosu emphasised.

Speaking to TS Weekend on his choice of Owerri, Iyiegbu described Imo State, which is home to A-list showbiz personalities like Charly Boy, Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic, and Kanayo O. Kanayo as the entertainment capital of Igboland. “Owerri is the entertainment and leisure heartland of the south east, this explains why we took our time to invest in this town. We know Owerri people have good taste, so we didn’t spare cost in all what you can see here. We conducted an assessment which showed that Owerri is the first choice for fun seekers in the south east, so we are glad to invest here,” he affirmed.

In fact, the Grand Cubana Lounge and Events Centre was built to international standard. A tour of the hangout revealed the Opium Nightlife to comprise of a bush bar, a grill, a restaurant and two banquet halls.

According to the General Manager, Paul Nti, the management has vowed not to compromise on the standard of the lounge, as it will be maintained regularly. “Cubana isn’t such a young brand. We have been in this business for eight years with our standout character being our maintenance culture and the ability to train staff to always see the customer as king,” Nti posited.

However, the icing on the cake for the event came on Saturday with a live performance by the Mavin Records’ duo of Don Jazzy and Dr. Sid. Revelers who returned for an encore took turns to take selfies with the artistes and they sang along when Dr. Sid performed some of his hits including Surulere, Over the Moon and Up to Something.

Family rejected me; people mocked me but…

Family rejected me; people mocked me but…

— 2nd December 2016

– China-based Nigerian artiste, James Ogbobe

From Petrus Obi, Enugu

He started off in Nigeria as a dancer. His family rejected him and was mocked by friends. But now, he is a success story as an actor cum singer with over 1.7 million online fan base.

In this interview, 28-year-old Nsukka-born James Ifeanyi Ogbobe opens up on his journey to stardom in the Peoples Republic of China. Enjoy it.

How I started

I started doing a traditional dance called ‘Igba Ndi-Eze’ while in secondary school in Nigeria. We formed a group to play this kind of music and I was the dancer in the group.  Also, I danced for some similar groups in the locality. Later, I met some established musicians and I started dancing for them. I danced for Princess Ego, from Enugu Ukwu in Anambra State. From her I got to know Theresa Onuora (Egedege), who I danced for, for about a year and a half. From Theresa Onuora and Princess Ego, I got into the music industry for real and sang and danced for Prince Gozie Okeke. I was in most of the videos of Ozoemene Nwa-Nsugbe. I disguised like a woman in these videos but in live shows I dressed like a man. That’s how my life started in Nigeria. And while we were dancing for Prince Gozie Okeke, I danced alongside Nkoli Nwa Nsukka (Rachael Okonkwo) because we come from the same area and we were good friends.

Family rejected me

My parents passed on when I was in JSS 3. My family was extremely against me when I was dancing then; even people would laugh at me while I danced. Sometimes, someone would climb the stage to spray money and will whisper to my ears, saying ‘you stupid old man, you are too old to be a dancer; you better go back to school or find something to do with your life’. Some would tell me that men don’t dance, that dance is for women. I received several insults from people, but they were not to be compared to the ones I received from my own family members, most especially, my elder brother. He was very angry with me; my uncles were very angry too, they never liked me. But today, the story is different.

Coming to China

After my WAEC, I got a scholarship that took me to China to study for five years. I came to China, learnt Chinese language for one year; and from the second year, I decided to go into my major, which is Tourism Management. In 2003, I met a Chinese woman in a coffee bar; I was sitting in a coffee bar and she just walked up to me and asked where I came from. I said I was from Nigeria. She said ‘okay, you look very good and you have a nice body, would you mind appearing in television?’ I said it wouldn’t be a problem. Then, she said she has a job for me. I asked what kind of job? She explained that she wanted me to take part in a TV show, and that’s where my being in TV started in China.

I went for the show and from there other TV stations started looking for me until I got the one I am doing now, Informal Talk, which is broadcast in English every Friday at 9:30pm. From Informal Talk, I got the opportunity to go into movies. I did an online movie called,Yi Zhang Ke. Then later this year, I had an opportunity to shoot another movie that would be shown in the cinema, not online.

My favourite Nollywood actors

I have so many favourite Nollywood actors like Kenneth Okonkwo, Rachael Okonkwo, Nonso Diobu, Mercy Johnson, Jim Iyke, Emeka Ike, Genevieve Nnaji, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, Emeka Ike, Ngozi Ezeonu, Chioma Chukwuka, Ini Edo, Pete Edochie, and a host of others.

On Chinese language

I speak Chinese very fluently. I can speak and read Chinese, but you know writing Chinese is very difficult. However, with phones and computers, I can write the language. I am from Nsukka and every village has their local language; so my Chinese is much better than my local language right now. Last year, when I came to Nigeria, I found out that I could understand everything said to me Igbo, but to speak it became a problem.

On Chinese food

When I first came to China, it was a big problem for me to eat Chinese food. For the first one week I ate only noodles, bread and tea. When I tried to eat Chinese food, I would vomit. But for like a month, I started trying and cooking Chinese food by myself, and gradually, I became adapted to it.

The funny thing about it is that, when I came home last year, I tried Nigerian food and I started vomiting, and my people were surprised. I was ashamed and I tried my possible best to be adapted to our local food again. I tried to also communicate with the elders in Nsukka dialect.

Between Nigerian and Chinese cultures

For me, Chinese food is much better than Nigerian food for now. I am just being honest. About culture, Chinese people are very traditional; they are not that open. If you are in China, you have to be very careful how you relate with people, because you might make them angry but they will pretend as if they are happy with you. They will keep on smiling, trying to show you that nothing has happened, and if you continue to do something bad, one day they will react.

On relationship, in Nigeria if you love someone, you might go straight to the person and tell him or her how you feel. But in China, someone might love another forever without telling him of her, and because of fear of rejection, he or she may die with the feelings. The person may even get married and have kids, and the other person may die single.

Home, sweet home

I am not happy that in China when I walk on the streets people recognise me but in my own country, Nigeria, it’s not the same thing. So, I want to do something with my own people like filming, modeling or even doing adverts for companies. For me, money is not the most important thing now; I am not saying it’s going to be for free, but I just need to do something in Nigeria, to work with Nigerians. I have to start from somewhere because nobody knows me in my country.
